Barack Obama has just received an award from the Obama Foundation for his role in improving the lives of Malia Obama’s children, which include Sasha and Malia Obamas two daughters, Malia, 16, and Sasha, 17.
Malia Obama, now 19, was born in Indonesia and the Obamas first child.
“It is the honor of Barack Obama and the Obama family to present to you, our community’s youngest recipient, the 2017 Michelle Obama Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Education,” the president said in a statement.
“We are proud to be able to share this award with our community, which has grown more vibrant and inclusive under the Obama Administration.”
In the statement, the Obams said that they are “honored” to have received the award and have already made plans to visit Malia and Sasha.
“As I have said many times, the President’s goal is to give every child in America an opportunity to reach their full potential,” Obama said.
“I know that this year’s award is an indication of that effort, as it is an honor to receive it from the President of the United States.”
“I am honored that the Obama’s are supporting this initiative that is creating a better future for every child,” he continued.
“This is an important initiative that we are doing together to make sure every child has a chance to succeed.”
Malian President Idriss Deby has also been honored.
The Obamas are also honoring the families of three former presidents who have died, including President Bill Clinton, former President George H W Bush, and former President Jimmy Carter.
