article RTE Sport has exclusively revealed the full award for Ireland’s 2016 GAA National Champion, the GAA Player of the year.GAA National Player of The Year, Sean O’Connell, will be honoured at a ceremony at The Dublin Inn on Wednesday night.
He became the first Irish player to win a Guinness World Record at the age of 25 when he won the Gáis du Maré in 2017, and he will also receive a lifetime achievement award at the event.
Sean O’Brien won the Guinness World Records title of being the youngest player to score in the finals of the Guinness PRO14 in 2018 and 2019.
He will be presented with a lifetime Achievement Award at the awards ceremony at the Dublin Inn.
Gáis d’Aile, winner of the Gaviria Cup in 2017 and 2018, will also be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Gavirian captain, Joe McCabe, who also won the Irishman Of The Year award in 2017 at The Cork Sportsman Club, will not be receiving a Lifetime achievement award.
The Irishman In Sport award is handed out by the Guinness Pro12 to a player who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and integrity in their respective sport.
It recognises the contribution of the player in the pursuit of excellence.
Gaois-born Sean O Donnelly was named as the Irish Player of Year in 2016 by the Professional Irish Football Association (PIFFA).
He made his professional debut in 2003 and has made his way through the ranks of the game, playing in the Guinness Professional Football League (PFL), the Irish Football League and the All-Ireland Football League.
O Donnelly, who won the O Donnies award in 2016, is now based in Dublin.
He is currently in the process of applying for a Guinness PRO12 licence.
Gara Fagal, the Ireland captain for the past four seasons, will receive the GARALA in Sport award in 2019.
She has led the country to the quarter-finals of the Six Nations.
