The outbreak has spread to more than 300,000 U.S. students and has killed at least 29 people, including two young children, according to CDC statistics.
On Saturday, the CDC announced that it had identified and quarantined 572 cases and 4,955 confirmed cases.
The CDC also announced that 4,726 of the confirmed cases had been confirmed in New York City, where more than 50 percent of the students are students.
The outbreak is a major public health concern.
In the first six months of this year, more than 6,000 cases of the coronavirus were reported to the CDC.
The total number of confirmed cases in the United States this year is now at 6,957.
In a press conference at the CDC on Saturday, President Donald Trump described the outbreak as “a wake-up call to us to do better.”
The president said that the outbreak is causing a great loss of life and economic disruption in the U.K. and other countries.
The president said the government should take steps to “get the disease under control in the country, to reduce the number of deaths and prevent additional infections.”
